Pick-Your-Own Apples and Learn about Johnny Appleseed at Terhune Orchards during
Fall Festival Weekends at Terhune Orchards through Oct 30
The Mount Family is celebrating their 40th year at Terhune Orchards this season. Every weekend in September and October, Fall Festival Weekends at the farm are wonderful events for the whole family. Educating children about farm life is important at Terhune Orchards. Each fall, the staff decorates a barn in a new theme for young visitors to explore. For 2016 the Johnny Appleseed Adventure Barn: Man Myth, Legend and Lore is an interactive story book for children to walk through and learn about Johnny Appleseed and how he helped apples became so well loved in America. Hand painted vignettes and life sized figurines of John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, depict his path across the country planting apple trees, his modes of transportation and way of life and how the apples he planted were enjoyed in the 1800’s.
Fall Family Weekends continue every fall weekend at Terhune Orchards through October 30. Every weekend there are opportunities to enjoy apples and have fun on the Mount Family’s 200 acre farm on preserved farmlands. Children are captivated by all of the activities on the farm during festival weekends. The corn maze is a fun challenge for all ages. The barnyard is always a popular stop to visit with the animals. There are pony rides, scavenger hunts, rubber duck races and tractor wagon rides around the farm to keep the little ones happy all day. The whole family will enjoy the daily musical guests on festival days.
After a day of fun hungry visitors will delight in apple treats galore waiting in Pam’s Food Tent. Enjoy our famous apple cider donuts, apple pies, apple muffins and more freshly baked treats. Quench your thirst with freshly pressed apple cider or a cider slushie. Lunch options include barbecue chicken, pulled pork sandwiches, vegetarian chili, soups and more.
Fall Family Weekends are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. On Columbus Day weekend, the Fall Festival Weekend will extend to Saturday though Monday, October 8-10.
