Come Fly with Us on Kite Day at Terhune Orchards, April 30- May 1
Remember flying kites in the open field in your neighborhood or at the beach? Kite flying has become a tradition at Terhune Orchards and a sure sign of spring
arriving. Pam Mount always
wanted to host an “Apple Blossom Festival” but had found it impossible to predict when exactly the apple trees will bloom. So we plan for kite flying and hope for the added benefit of trees in bloom for a wonderful wagon ride around the orchards. Kite Day is 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 and Sunday, May 1.
Children of all ages (and adults, too) can make and decorate their own kites guaranteed to fly. We also have an assortment of pre-made kites to capture your imagination and take to the skies. Feel free to bring your own, too. Whichever you choose, test fly your kite in our wide-open 10-acre pasture with all the farm animals looking on.
On Kite Day, the old-fashioned delight of flying a kite with your family will entertain you for hours. The fields will ring with the sound of country music as you make your kites dance in the sky. The Ed Wilson Band will play Saturday. April 30 from 12-4 p.m. On Sunday, May 1, Albo will perform from 12-4 p.m.
On May 1 at 2 p.m., Joel, our sheep shearer, will shear the farm sheep in the barnyard. Children get to take home a sheep-shaped card with a piece of the wool attached.
There will be special games and activities for children in the barnyard including face painting and pony rides. Take a wagon ride through the apple blossoms in the orchards.
Take a break and have lunch or a snack at Pam’s Food Tent. Don’t miss our famous barbequed asparagus! Enjoy Terhune Orchards’ famous apple cider donuts, pies, cider, country chili, hot dogs, BBQ chicken, salads and spring goodies. The winery tasting room will be open from 12- 5 p.m. We suggest sipping our Front Porch Breeze or Blossom White wines or choose your favorite from our red, white and fruit based wines produced here on the farm.
Wander through Pam’s Display Gardens. Plants for spring gardens will be available for sale. Start your own garden or add color to your borders with annual and perennial flowers in hanging baskets. Try growing our vegetable and herb plants in your garden or on your patio at home.
Parking is at available at the farm. Access to the farm store and winery tasting room is open with no admission.
Kite Day Festival admission is $5, ages 3 and up.
